COMMERCIAL OPERATION CEREMONY OF THE BATERRY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM (BESS) PROJECT AT VINPEARL RESORT NHA TRANG

20-12-2024

Nha Trang, December 5, 2024 - VinFast Energy, Marubeni, and Vinpearl have officially commenced the commercial operation the Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) at Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang, marking an important milestone in the application of energy storage technology developed and manufactured in Vietnam.

The Battery Energy Storage System project, located on Hon Tre Island in Nha Trang within the Vinpearl Resort complex, has a storage capacity of 3.7MWh. This project is part of the broader cooperation strategy between Vingroup and Marubeni Group in the clean energy sector, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward the energy transition. It also demonstrates Vingroups strong commitment to achieving its Net Zero emissions target and building a sustainable future.

The BESS was researched, developed, and manufactured by VinFast Energy using advanced lithium-ion battery technology, featuring high energy density and a liquid cooling system to enhance performance and lifespan, thereby optimizing investment costs and ensuring a stable and highly efficient power supply throughout the product’s lifecycle. The successful launch of the project showcases VinFast Energys capabilities in researching, developing, and implementing energy solutions that meet international partners quality and safety standards.

This project also pioneers a tripartite collaboration model, allowing Vinpearl, the end user, to benefit from the BESS without incurring any initial investment costs. The BESS system installed on Hon Tre Island has contributed to optimizing electricity consumption during peak hours at the resorts, alleviating pressure on the grid, and enhancing the stability of energy supply. Furthermore, the BESS system plays a key role in supporting Vinpearl to integrate more solar power systems in the future, enhancing the efficiency of utilizing renewable energy sources, in line with Vinpearl’s sustainable development strategy.

Mr. Satoru Harada, Managing Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Power Div at Marubeni Corporation, remarked as the investor: "We are delighted to realize our collaboration with Vingroup through the first project at Vinpearl, utilizing the BESS manufactured domestically by VinFast Energy. This project also opens new business opportunities for Marubeni in the Vietnamese market by providing BESS services to manufacturing and business facilities, helping customers optimize operational costs while driving the green transition through rooftop solar integration as an integrated solution. Through this project, we aim to continue increasing our investment in the green energy sector in Vietnam."

Ms. Pham Thuy Linh, Representative of Vingroup, shared: "Through the collaboration to implement projects under our joint strategic partnership, Marubeni and Vingroup continue to reaffirm their commitment to advancing the green energy transition in Vietnam. This project represents a remarkable milestone that not only showcases VinFasts capabilities but also highlights Vinpearls green transformation commitment. Moreover, it underscores Vingroups pioneering role in driving energy transition in Vietnam and reflects the conglomerate’s continuous efforts to promote sustainable values across various sectors."

BESS is an advanced energy storage solution widely adopted worldwide. This system enables the flexible storage and supply of electricity to meet demand at specific times, making it particularly effective for storing energy during off-peak hours for use during peak hours, thereby alleviating pressure on the power grid.

Additionally, BESS can integrate with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, mitigating the instability of these sources while optimizing the amount of renewable energy fed into the system. With its outstanding advantages, BESS plays a critical role in the ongoing energy transition, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and efficient energy system globally.
